Blogging is as an important marketing technique for businesses. Writing effective blogs can boost your brand and improve your website search ranking, which can result in sales for your business. Websites that are static i.e. no new content perform poorly online. Their page rankings and site traffic will usually suffer but so too will the perception of the brand among customers.
Regular blogging helps to personalise your company, its gives you a face and makes you human. It can also be an effective tool in presenting your brand as an authority in your given field. Also you are essentially giving something away for ‘free’ or at least your readers do not have to pay to view your content – which is always a nice thing to do!
Good blogging is highly social. One of our recent blogs ‘Can Holywood become Northern Ireland’s Digital Hub?’ received a lot of interest. We had good interaction on our social networks pages and experienced increased traffic to our website. We were even contacted by Invest NI and local businesses in Holywood to discuss how the town could be further promoted as a digital hub. Additionally we also received a number of enquiries which led to business.
What is great about social media is that through platforms such as Facebook we can advertise a blog to a huge number of people. So the reach of a blog can be considerable and the return on investment can be high. So it makes sense for us to place a lot of value in blogging.
Companies are not the only ones to take advantage of blogging. Over the past couple of years individual bloggers have been able to make huge sums of money by opening their content up to display advertisements. Notable bloggers such as Tim Ferriss and Chris Guillebeau have reached considerable audiences and earned a fantastic living on the back of blogging. We have a friend, who is a travel blogger, and he spends between 5 – 10 hours a week blogging and the rest of his time, he enjoys travelling the world. There are huge opportunities for both individuals and companies to benefit from active blogging.
None of what I have said is new. Blogging has been proven to work. It is how you go about it that matters. The key to good blogging - if I can borrow the BEBO backronym, Blog Early, Blog Often - is to be current, blog before your competitors and try to aim for a couple of good blogs a week.
If you can follow these tips you will soon be blogging your way to success!
