With the phenomenal rise of social media over the past couple of years, businesses large and small have been trying to get their brands heard and seen across the various social platforms. Some have been successful, others have not. We find it largely comes down to what you want to get out of from you digital marketing initiatives.
Facebook is still the social media platform of choice for most businesses, in particular small enterprises. What we find is that if small businesses plan adequately, know exactly what they want from their Facebook marketing, and post engaging content, more often than not they will experience success.
Here are some useful questions that may help you define an effective strategy.
1. What do you hope to achieve from a Facebook marketing strategy i.e. sales, brand building, customer service?
2. Are you willing to spend money on using Facebook’s advertising products such as promoted posts, sponsored stories?
3. Do you know when is your most effective posting schedule i.e. what times are your fans most active?
4. Do you know how often you should connect with your fans?
We find that by asking yourself these questions you can help to frame in your mind the ‘what’, ‘when’, ‘who’ and ‘why’ of your Facebook marketing campaign.
So what are our four ‘secrets’ for Facebook marketing success?
1. Content, Content and…Content
It is really important to post content that will be ‘liked’ and ‘shared’ by as many people as possible. It is natural that your fans and potential fans will only be engaged by a page that has interesting content. What type of content? Content related to your brand will be important but so too will other non-company based content, for example we find that humorous/quirky content and non-salesy posts can work really well to build a loyal fan base and maintain high levels of engagement.
2. Get your fans involved.
Facebook can be a fantastic platform to listen to your customers. We have found that Facebook can also be a good customer service tool. One of our clients have seen a surge in the number of customer service requests through Facebook. This has helped this client to better manage customer relationships as well as make new ones.
3. Promote your page
It is really important to promote your Facebook page in order to gain maximum exposure for your brand. Facebook Ads can be really effective in helping you find your audience. They can help you to ‘boost’ your posts, get more likes, get people talking about your brand, and importantly increase the chance of sales. Also, integrate Facebook with your marketing strategies outside of the social platform.
4. Use your cover photo as a free Ad Banner
Don’t underestimate the power of a cover photo. When someone ‘likes’ a page, their brand page’s profile and cover photo will be displayed in Facebook walls of that fan’s friends. Smart brands can use this marketing space to strategically position a key selling message to help generate interest.
The above brief examples should hopefully provide some tips on how best to maximize your Facebook marketing efforts.
